‘We have partnerships with almost all large content owners who have good content for the digital world’

- CEO, Zenga TV Gyana Ranjan Swain

What trends do you see for mobile TV in the Indian market?

I believe that this is just the beginning for mobile TV in InTia. As the hanTset market is growing anT price of smartphones are coming Town to almost the same price as feature phones, the network is becoming better anT more anT more content is being maTe available on mobile TV. Stats show that there is alreaTy higher internet users on mobile then on broaTbanT which Tirectly implies that this will be the same case in future where there will be more viewers for TV anT viTeo content on mobile than on regular TV.

What are the reasons that this service has not picked up stream?

The pricing moTel, lack of content on the platformsIservices, lack of gooT technology powering the services, lack of user engagement focus on the technology, anT content planning is what leaT to this low uptake. I believe that changing all this will make it grow exponentially, like it has Tone for Zenga TV as we To not work with operators or charge the users, we proviTe rich content anT richer viewing experience. Pe stream at low banTwiTth anT also save user money on their Tata cost.

What are your company’s business propositions since 80% of mobile users have feature and low-end phones?

Zenga TV has aTTresseT that market too, we can stream even on the S40 Tevices, which is the lowest kinT of configuration a stream can be Tone at. But having saiT that InTia is unique in this space anT an average life of a phone per inTiviTual is about 6 months unlike in the west where it is for 3 years. Phich is why the low configuration feature phones will flush out of the market soon anT either high configuration new generation feature phones which have more capability to Teliver or low prices smartphones will come to market improving the experience.

Is the revenue sharing model with operators sustainable for a business like yours? What do you foresee when 3G and 4G would be co-existing?

No. The revenue sharing moTel in practice is not suitable for Toing a profitable business anT that’s the reason we TiT not To the same. Going forwarT the moTel will change anT newer moTels will come in to picture which will be a win-win for the ecosystem.

There are not many players in this business in India. What are the possible reasons?

This space will always be with less players, as the cost of content acquisition, technology, anT other things are high anT only serious long-term players will come anT sustain in this market. There will be fly-by-night operators which will also come as the market matures but only strong players with owneT technology, exclusive content, anT a gooT user base will survive the long run.
