The recent global trends of employees bringing personally owned mobile devices to their offices to access company resources such as emails, file servers, and databases has been aptly termed by experts as the “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) concept. This concept has been rapidly changing the relationship between employers and employees. BYOD is increasingly viewed as an irreversible trend which will enhance the productivity levels of employees. The naysayers, however, have a slightly different opinion articulating their concerns that left unregulated—BYOD could allow data breaches involving confidential corporate data which can fall into the wrong hands or competitors.
