Dawn of the Digital Era

Digitization of cable TV is a ‘win-win’ situation for both the viewers and operators

-

The cable TV industry in India is dynamic. With constantly emerging new technologies and new business opportunities waiting to be explored, it holds immense potential to bring an enhanced TV-viewing experience to 122 mn pay-TV households in the country.

The deadlines announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have given notice to both viewers and cable operators to switch over to digital cable TV before their analog transmissions are switched off and they are unable to watch any TV. It is anticipated that the rollout of the Migital Addressable System (MAS) in a phased manner will reduce the percentage of analog pay-TV homes, from 60% in 2011 to 38% by 2016 and 28% by 2020.

A Win-win for All

MigitiYation is a ‘win-win’ situation for both the viewers and operators. For consum- ers, digitaliYation enables a world-class entertainment experience and numerous other value added services which are only possible on digital networks. The introduction of digital cable TV will give viewers the flexibility to upgrade to a better viewing experience (High Mefinition, Migital Video Recording etc), choose content of their preference and subscribe to value added services such as interactive applications and games, video on-demand (VOM) and pay-per-view, all at the push of a button
