‘We are aiming to sell 2 lakh tablets this year’

- CEO, Wishtel V&D Correspondent

How do you foresee WishTel’s market among the low-budget tablets?

The low-cost tablet market in India is mushrooming, so the need is to offer the best at a competitive price. We aim to provide customized solutions to our customers without compromising on quality and efficiency. Through this lowbudget market, we would bridge the gap between technology and education by extending education for free and without boundaries. We want to take advanced technology to such parts of the world where every stratum of the society can access our products at an affordable price. We intend to offer our solutions to universities and schools worldwide and empower every student with a PC, enabling them to learn and educate themselves beyond textbooks.

How many tablets were sold last year and what is the projection for the next year in terms of units?

Our first tablet, IRA was launched in March 2012. This is also one of our fastest moving tablets. Since then, we have launched series of tablets and sold over 80,000 tablets in all variants. With the launch of PrithV devices in the market, we are aiming to reach out to about 2 lakh students by the end of this year and sell atleast 2 lakh units of android based tablets in 2013.

What are your market plans for PrithV?

We will soon be launching netbooks and tablets supporting PrithV. The product will be available in stores by the end of January. The pilot phase of PrithV that was executed in 3 schools across Maharashtra’s remote Konkan villages has received very positive response.

PrithV is a Linux based educational platform to be offered on tablets, netbooks, and PCs and is supporting 85 global languages and 23 Indian languages. Designed and engineered in India, PrithV has been developed in association with Gnowledge lab, Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education.

What are the other products in the pipeline?

We will introduce Linux based devices in the form of netbooks and tablets in the first quarter. We have some interesting products lined up for the second quarter and will soon make some announcements about them.

Please brief us about your target audience and your strategy for them?

Anyone using a communication device in his/her daily life is our target audience. Education is a very important area for us and we would like to take it to a very different level. We are working towards reaching out to schools and educational institutes with our low-cost/budget devices at the moment. In India, we have a very good distribution network and we reach out to customers in Assam and Kochi. We have been getting good response from places like Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Dehradun.
