Alas! if all autos and buses in Delhi had GPS (Global Positioning System) the continued harassment that is faced by passengers in such public modes of transport would have come down substantially.
Meter billing would be more accurate and verifiable; bus’ location and time of arrival would be more predictable. As a case in point, Indian Railways have now started giving accurate location of their trains on a SMS request. Over the last few years, call centers in India have been monitoring the timely pick-up of their employees using GPS-enabled vehicles.
GPS is owned and operated by the US military through an orbital constellation of a minimum of 24 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites that keep orbiting the Earth. This was opened up
