On India Market Penetration:

Intex Technologies has geared up its growth in the last three years, growing by at least 100% on a year-on-year basis with a current market share of 11%, making the brand occupy a position among the top three handset players in India. Going forward, Intex is well positioned to occupy pole position among Indian Handset makers and thus become the second largest handset maker in the country.

This gain of market share comes primarily on the back of great products, strong service and distribution strategy.

Intex has a strong presence in the e-commerce space too with strategic tie-ups in the online space. Intex has launched the most number of models in the first half of 2015 outdoing all its rivals. The thought behind such aggressive new models launch is to cater to every type and every need of the customer.

On Investments:

In line with Prime Minister’s Make-in-India policy, we are continuously increasing domestic manufacturing of mobile handsets. We have been associated with manufacturing in India since 2001. Currently, we have four manufacturing units in India - Jammu and Baddi (HP) one each and two in Noida. A massive facility spread over 20 lakh sq feet is coming up in Greater Noida (UP), where all the manufacturing capacity will be consolidated. This unit will have mobile manufacturing capacity of 35 million units per annum. Intex will invest Rs 1,500 crore in the next three to five years to make smartphones in the country. This includes Rs 1,000 crore on manufacturing and Rs 500 crore on R&D.

On Government Role:

The ‘Make in India’ initiative is a watershed step towards unveiling the real potential of over 1.2 billion people and unleashing the manufacturing prowess of India. As an industry player, we feel the government should create, encourage and facilitate an environment that incubates a complete mobile ecosystem and includes building a domestic component manufacturing and designing platform.

On Manufacturing in India:

We import components primarily from China. Intex has a mature ecosystem of vendors and partners who develop products/components as per our design and needs. Building the local component manufacturing
