Digital Infrastructure on its Way

-

Under the leadership of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), the pink city of Jaipur has created digital infrastructure to offer citizens amenities including intelligent kiosks, wireless broadband, safety and security services, traffic management and environmental updates.

JDA has set up a City Infrastructure Management Centre as well as a Response Control Room to manage the city with greater efficiency and effectiveness. In Jaipur’s City Infrastructure Management Centre, nearly all the solutions are integrated into a digital platform. The digital platform built by JDA can aggregate data from various sensors and solutions conduct data analytics and support a number of urban services.

In this phase, JDA has implemented the solutions in Jantarmantar, Amer, Albert Hall, Jal Mahal, Ram Niwas Bagh, Hawa Mahal, Central Park and Jawahar Circle; the next phase of implementation in another 25 sites is set to complete by the end of February, this year.

“The initiative to transform Jaipur into a smart city has gathered tremendous mo- mentum since its launch in May 2014,” said Shikhar Agarwal, Commissioner of Jaipur Development Authority, adding that this is just the beginning. The JDA is working with Cisco, L&T and other partners to realize its smart city vision.

In November 2015, Cisco and CH2M, a global engineering company, announced a new global strategic relationship to provide urban planning and design, smart-technology integration and program delivery services. The first integrated delivery from Cisco and CH2M is to Shendra-Bidkin, an industrial smart city being developed along India’s Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.

Located in the Aurangabad District in the State of Maharashtra, Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) will be a new megaindustrial city that features a transit-oriented and walkable township, water and energy conservation, renewable power sources, and a healthy quality of life while maintaining the area’s unique cultural heritage.

CH2M is serving as program manager for building phase 1 of Shendra-Bidkin. CH2M will manage development of physical infra- structure (including buildings, roads, water systems, and energy) and an exhibition and convention center. Cisco is developing the Master System Integration Plan of this new city as part of the program management team.

The partnership between CH2M and Cisco is expected to provide the city and its citizens with dynamic street lighting, optimized parking, intelligent transportation, water and waste management systems, integrated analytics, real-time urban services for city operations, and city operations management

“SBIA will join other world-class developments as one of India’s first smart and master planned industrial cities that will contribute towards creating an ecosystem for the ‘Make In India’ and ‘Make in Maharashtra’ campaigns to help the country and the state become a new economic force and achieve long-term sustainable growth,” said Apurva Chandra, principal secretary (Industries), Government of Maharashtra.

Cisco is also working also with states such as Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on smart city projects.
