Jakarta Aquarium
Drawn by the allure of spending an afternoon observing colourful and interesting underwater marine life, locals and tourists alike flock to the newly opened Jakarta Aquarium.
This coming holiday, parents can take their kids to the Jakarta Aquarium located at Neo SOHO Mall for a fun and educational afternoon excursion. The aquarium, developed by Taman Safari Indonesia, features all the rich and diverse marine life that the archipelago has to offer. Launched in January this year, the limited tickets to the early preview were a prized commodity.
The upper floor of the aquarium takes visitors on a journey through the various flora and fauna on the numerous islands of Indonesia and their impacts on the inhabitant's daily life and traditions.
The exhibit features rainforests and mangroves, with native species such as the world-famous Komodo dragon, cheeky stingrays and playful otters. A special feature that kids will love is the hermit crab log, in which they can observe the shy creatures in their habitat with a magnifying glass. Stairs lead down to the underwater display of Jakarta Aquarium. Visitors looking for a place to rest can sink into the seats surrounding the wondrous swirl tank. The lower floor of the Jakarta Aquarium delves into the deep sea riches of the Coral Triangle. Kids can marvel at bamboo sharks, glowing jellyfish, clownfish and other beautiful marine inhabitants in the various tanks. The aquarium's last section features the biggest tank, which holds exotic creatures such as Napoleon Wrasse fish, sea turtles and sharks.
