Late last year, the record for the most expensive wristwatch ever sold was set at the philips auction house in new York. the value was a whopping UsD 17.8 million, paid by an unknown bidder on the telephone. the model? a Rolex Daytona (reference 6239), which was owned by late Hollywood icon paul newman, who received it from his wife Joanne Woodward while he was filming the movie “Winning” in the late ’ 60s. Fast forward to may 2018, the second most expensive rolex ever sold at an auction was also set, yet again a rolex Daytona model for UsD 5.9 million. this piece is a one-of-a-kind white gold vintage rolex Daytona, also known as the “Unicorn.” this was sold by watch collector John Goldberger, who donated the proceeds to the charity Children action.
