THE MACALLAN PRESENTS MAGNIFICENT MEDLEY OF DESIGN, CRAFTSMANSHIP AND THE WORLD’S MOST SOPHISTICATED SINGLE MALT WHISKY
Some whiskies can easily be described as works of art. This notion rings especially true for the The Macallan M, which was born out of a collaboration between three masters: There is The Macallan, French creative director Fabien Baron and finally world renowned glassmaker Lalique.
The three went to work with a single objective: “to create the world’s most sophisticated single malt whisky, contained in a beautifully designed and meticulously crafted crystal decanter.”
THE DECANTER
The “M” in the name of this particular whisky was actually inspired by the sharp, angular facets of the decanter it comes in. In fact, Baron envisioned the tall, slim and geometric form as a challenge to the traditional perceptions of how a decanter should look like.
There is more to the decanter’s shape than pure design, however. The six striking facets that make The Macallan M so recognizable are actually Baron’s homage to the six pillars that lie at the heart of the distillery: The Spiritual Home, referring to the famed Macallan Estate where every drop of M is created; the distiller’s Curiously Small Stills which are responsible for the spirits’ fruity, full-bodied character; The Finest Cut, as only the finest spirits eventually “make the cut” and end up in the final products; Exceptional Oak Casks that infuse every drop of whisky with its distinctive aroma and flavor; Natural Color achieved solely through the interaction between spirits and wood; and, finally, The Peerless Spirit that has solidified The Macallan’s place in the hearts of whisky connoisseurs all over the world.
This visual idea is then brought to life by one of the distiller’s longtime collaborators, Lalique. For The Macallan M, the famous glassmaker and jeweler brought about top-tier refinement and flawless clarity by using the highest grade crystal. Perhaps it should come as no surprise that each decanter is hand-crafted for that extra touch of exclusivity and expressive grace.
THE SPIRITS WITHIN
The third and final master to lend its craft to The Macallan M is, of course, The Macallan itself. Drawing on its long tradition of full-flavored spirits, the distillery has created a whisky with a rich natural color, complexity and intensity the likes of which has never been encountered in a single malt before. In The Macallan M, the flavor of rich, dried fruits become interwoven with spices, the citrusy taste of oranges and wood notes.
As far as single malt whiskies go, The Macallan M offers complexity and character like no other. Finally, as it is presented in its iconic decanter, the M certainly has become an iconic representation of The Macallan.
