When you browse through the pages of this magazine and see a French model posing in Bali or an American model in the middle of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, sitting near one the stars, you can’t help but wonder at how exciting the life of a top model can be. But that’s only part of the story. DAMAnStyle is, and has always been, as much about fashion as it is about the people that are the literal faces of fashion.
So, while we talk about the runways of Paris and Milan, new York and London, the main features of this issue—that is, the interviews with our featured models—give us an amazing perspective of what happens before the runways come to life and before the cameras start shooting. Jacob Bixenman, for one, talks about the casting process and the ins-and-outs of a major runway show like the one held by Dolce & Gabbana. David Friend, meanwhile, has a story about how a single runway show can act as a major turning point for one model and one brand.
Guess campaign star Gui Fedrizzi has another sort of story; one featuring paintings and poetry—the other half of the classically-handsome Brazillian model. Meanwhile, Aurélien Muller, who graced the pages of the very first DAMAnStyle and now appears on the cover, has a much more philosophical attitude towards the craft of modeling and readily chats about the less glamorous facets of modeling. Then we also have nic Thompson, also on his second appearance in our publication, who gives us a perfect example of “keeping it real” amid the glam and glamor of fashion.
In short, male models, one of the most misunderstood professionals on the planet, often harbor some of the best life stories—both on and off the runways. That is also why we try to highlight the models in our regular columns through behind-the-scene videos dedicated to them as well as those appearing in this season’s major fashion campaigns and runway shows.
Speaking of which, there are, of course, our usual fashion guides, covering everything from this season’s must-have Essentials, in-depth Know-How guides, the most Frequently Asked Questions about styling and much, much more.
