WHAT, EXACTLY, IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KHAKIS AND CHINOS?
Most of us are already familiar with these two. Originally, khaki—from the Urdu word for “dust”—was the name of a color and chino was the name of a fabric. Another major difference is that the stitching on khakis is visible, whereas it is concealed on chinos. This particular way of stitching gives chino pants a dressier and more finished look. Furthermore, chino pants are often worn with a closer fit and slimmer proportion than khakis. In short, khakis are actually more casual, while chinos are a step up in terms of being dressy.
