Bomberg is a relatively new player in the world of timekeeping, although it does have its roots in the heartland of the Swiss watch industry—Neuchâtel. That being said, Bomberg has made quite a name for itself for solid watches that are rather unconventional, but in the best possible way. Unique and often bold, a Bomberg watch is instantly recognizable.
And this limited edition black Bolt-68 Auto 3 Hands Matt model is the perfect example of what it means to be unmistakably Bomberg, combining subtlety (well, at least compared to the brand’s more flashy offerings, like Bolt-68 Black Cobra Automatic) and a strong renegade vibe.
The Bolt-68 name for the collection, by the way, is a reference to the year 1968. It was, all in all, a very memorable year for the entire world, marked by events such as the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, the infamous Tet Offensive at the climax of the Vietnam War, the Apollo 8 mission that became the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon and many more.
Quite appropriately, each Bolt-68 model is destined to become memorable in their own unique ways.
For the watch we’re seeing here it is, again, all about projecting attitude. It all starts with the size. With a 45mm case, this Bolt-68 is hard to miss. Its black or gray PVD case further add another unique twist to what is already a unique timepiece. The crown, meanwhile, is placed at the 12 o’clock position. This is definitely not a conventional configuration—but then again, we’re talking about a Bomberg watch here.
Inside the case ticks a Sellita SW200 automatic movement with a power reserve of up to 38 hours. The movement is, of course, made and assembled in Switzerland. Rounding up the Bolt-68 Auto 3 Hands are its leather straps with tone-on-tone stitching in keeping with the watch’s overall theme.
It’s also interesting to note that you don’t have to wear the Bolt-68 as a wristwatch. Like its many siblings from the overall Bolt-68 collection, this watch comes with a chain and medallion which allows you to carry the piece as a nifty pocket watch. So, with that in mind, if you’re looking for a watch that’s unique, “out of the box” and makes for a strong statement piece, this one’s definitely for you.
