Greater Heights
Among Jakarta’s vast crowd of classic steakhouse restaurants, only few do it as well, and as proper, as ( Jl. MH Thamrin Kav 28-30, The Plaza, Jakarta; +62 21 2992 2448; altitudegrill.com). Helmed by Executive Chef Gary Eng, the venue crafts every dish with an attention to detail. For one, the place has its own dry-aging chamber, where they keep their (dry-aged) steaks that have been aged for at least thirty days for a smokier, nuttier and less moist flavor profile. Of course, Altitude Grill is also home to many other dishes, including the Oven Baked Cod with Salted Egg Yolk Hollandaise that is softly granular in texture and rich and delicately salty on the palate. The restaurant also offers a free-flow desert package. At night, Altitude Grill becomes a marvelous place to sip surprisingly affordable cocktails while you enjoy the music and gaze upon Jakarta’s magnificent skyline.
