TUDOR PRESENTS THE BLACK BAY FIFTYEIGHT, AN ADDITIONAL MODEL TO ITS BLACK BAY LINE THAT FOLLOWS IN THE VEIN OF THE BRAND’S FIRST DIVERS’ WATCHES

-

Back in 1954, Tudor set out on a new path—one which would eventually contribute to the forging of a legend. It was in that year that the brand’s first divers’ watch, the Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, saw the light of day. Designed from the start to fulfill exceptional criteria of durability, reliability, precision and waterproofness at a moderate price, it quickly positioned itself as an instrument of choice for professionals.

This particular watch—the first generation of Tudor Submariners— saw numerous versions, and through them, a notable advance in terms of performance. For instance, with the introduction of reference 7924 in 1958, the maximum functional immersion depth that was initially set at 100 meters, reached 200 meters. Furthermore, over the next 45 years this original tool watch continuously evolved to ever better meet the exacting requirements of various divers as the brand also conducted multiple experiments to establish which characteristics were indispensable as an the ideal divers’ watch.

Fresh Addition

Fast forward to 2018, and Tudor is introducing another model to the storied Black Bay line: The Black Bay Fifty-Eight. Interestingly, this new watch is named after the aforementioned year where Tudor’s first divers’ watch with a waterproof rating of 200 meters—reference 7924—was introduced. Among the many aesthetic allusions to this famous historic watch, the new model has a 39mm diameter case, in keeping with the characteristic proportions of the 1950s.

The new Black Bay Fifty-Eight also comes in a new color combination. upfront, finishing touches in gold have been applied to the hour markers, hands and minute track of the black and steel bezel, as a nod to the time when Tudor divers’ watches were first being made. Further cementing the Fifty-Eight’s stature as a bona fide diving watch, the inscription “200m 660ft” is displayed prominently at the 6 o’clock position on the black domed dial as a reminder of the watch’s waterproof qualities.

Another noteworthy variation from the regular aesthetics of the Black Bay line is that the winding crown tube of the Fifty-Eight is made using satinbrushed steel, in keeping with the style of the case and winding crown, which bears the Tudor rose logo.

Complete Package

what makes the Black Bay FiftyEight even more alluring is the movement that drives it: a new Tudor manufacture movement mT5402. crafted in line with the purest watchmaking traditions, this precision mechanism presents extraordinary robustness and reliability, guaranteed by an array of extreme tests applied to all Tudor products. Besides a 70-hour power reserve, the high performance movement also features a non-magnetic silicon balance spring and is certified by the Swiss Official chronometer Testing Institute, cOSc.

Backed by an illustrious history spanning sixty years, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight is a definite must-have for diving enthusiasts and gentlemen with a discerning eye for quality.
