IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN RELEASES A SPECIAL WATCH TO COMMEMORATE ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LAUREUS SPORT FOR GOOD FOUNDATION
Since 1999, the laureus Sport for Good foundation—established by daimler and richemont—has been harnessing the power of sport to bring about social change, integrate disadvantaged children and young adults into society more effectively and give them more promising future prospects. notably, the organisation engages youths in sports such as basketball, cycling and football as a means of improving their self-esteem.
as it happens, Swiss watchmaking company IWC Schaffhausen works together with this charitable foundation, particularly with respect to the latter’s focus on education and training, the environment, culture and, of course, sports. Through its partnership with the laureus Sport for Good foundation, IWC supports a wide range of inclusive education initiatives. These programs combine learning, development of occupational skills as well as promoting peace through sport.
“as a former military athlete and keen sportsman, I have experienced and appreciate the positive power of sport, and I know how sport can improve a sense of community or strengthen one’s willpower,” explains Christoph Grainger-herr,
Ceo of IWC Schaffhausen. “I am delighted to support the important work of laureus Sport for Good, especially in the year of our 150th anniversary.”
A Lovely Combination
as part of its commitment to support the laureus Sport for Good foundation, IWC Schaffhausen presented the pilot’s Watch mark XVIII edition “laureus Sport for Good foundation” at the 2018 laureus World Sports awards in monaco. This time, the 12th special edition of the watch comes with a case made of black ceramic, a blue dial and a special engraving on the caseback.
like every laureus special edition watch, the timepiece also features a special engraving depicting the winning entry of a drawing competition organized by IWC. for this special watch, the jury selected 11-year-old ana Claudia’s drawing, out of more than 1,000 submissions. Claudia participated in a project of the Instituto reação—an organization that helps to improve the living conditions of Brazilian children and adolescents through education and sport.
up front, it features the typical blue dial that has become the signature trademark of IWC’s special editions for the laureus Sport for Good foundation. Inside the case, the robust calibre 35111 movement is protected against magnetic interference through the use of a soft-iron inner case, while the glass is secured against sudden drops in air pressure.
naturally, part of the proceeds from the sales of this watch will be used to support the laureus Sport for Good foundation. This special edition of the pilot’s Watch mark XVIII is only available as a limited edition of 1,500 individually numbered specimens.
The Final Mission
The laureus Sport for Good foundation uses the power of sport to seek an end to violence, discrimination and disadvantage. Currently, laureus supports over 100 programs that utilizes sport to drive social change in around 35 countries. each of those programs address at least one of the following six social issues: health, education, women and girls, employability, inclusive society and peaceful society. These are also aligned with the united nations Sustainable development Goals.
IWC Schaffhausen and the laureus Sport for Good foundation believe that sport can change the way people look at the world. The true values of sport can bring together families, friends, nations and on occasions, the whole world—in a way that no other human activity can.
