AWARD-WINNING WINE CAPE DISCOVERY ELEVATES INDONESIA’S DRINKING SCENE WITH BONA FIDE WINEMAKING AND ITS EXTENSIVE COLLECTION

-

W hether it’s for a special occasion or a normal day, with friends and family or just by yourself, opening a bottle of wine is always a moment to cherish. After all, it’s more than just a matter of taste. Instead, it’s a medley of color, texture and a bouquet of aromas that can range from hints of berries to whiffs of vanilla. Of course, every sip of wine starts with a journey.

A Continental Journey

For Cape Discovery, that journey started approximately eight years ago. The brainchild of a collaboration between a pioneering Australian and an Indonesian wine company, Cape Discovery was established to revolutionize how Indonesians perceive wine and, in turn, improve the way people—newcomers and connoisseurs alike—experience it.

Back to the journey, the creation of Cape Discovery’s wines spans across at least three continents. To begin with, the grapes used by the company are grown in Australia, France and New Zealand. Once harvested, the grapes are immediately frozen to capture the essence of the fruit and prevent immediate fermentation. More importantly, however, the use of frozen grapes ensure that the color, flavor and texture extracted are extra soft. This part happens in Cape Discovery’s state-of-the-art winery in northern Bali.

As testament to Cape Discovery’s profound understanding of grapes and its world class winemaking standards, the brand has won numerous medals at prestigious international wine competitions. This includes the IWSC (International Wine & Spirits Competition) held in London, the CWSA (China Wine and Spirits Awards) and the Cathay Pacific International Wine and Spirits competition in Hong Kong.

A full house

Today, Cape Discovery offers six different wines. Representing the red range, there is the winery’s 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, which features both blackcurrant and plum in its bouquet. There’s also the 2012 Shiraz which offers an aroma of Smokey oak and charred fruits, complemented by whiffs of violet and spicy pepper.

For white wines, there is the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, featuring an aromatic bouquet of lime, passionfruit and green pepper. Cape Discovery’s 2014 Chardonnay, meanwhile, offers connoisseurs a combination of stone fruits, citrus and new oak.

Finally, the house also offers its 2014 Rose Wine with a delicate bouquet of pink blossoms, strawberries and candy, along with the NV Sparkling Brut Cuveé, a sparkling wine with hints of citrus and white blossoms topped by a yeasty note.
