ROGUE OF THE ROAD
REPRESENTING A NEW BREED OF SUVS, THE BMW X2 PROMISES PERFORMANCE, SPORTY VIBES AND LEADING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY.
The BMW X model family is a true success story. Since 1999, when the first generation BMW X5 hit the market, more than 5.4 million X models have been sold globally. Now, the new BMW X2 sDrive18i M Sport X—which blends design elements from the BMW M and also the BMW X families—is ready to take the center stage.
AT FIRST GLANCE
For the first time in a modern BMW, there’s a new roundel on the C-pillars as well as a new styling on the kidney grille, with an outline that is wider at its base than at the top.
Looking closer, the C-pillars hosts two striking characteristics: the hallmark BMW Hofmeister kink and the aforementioned BMW roundel. As an integral element of the C-pillar, the Hofmeister kink on the BMW X2 is slightly elongated and doesn’t cross over the door line. This certainly boosts the sporty look of this Sports Activity Coupe. Next, the BMW roundel on the C-pillars invokes a design cue that is much admired in classic BMW coupes and ensures that the car will be instantly recognizable on the road.
Moving on to the front side, one might feel that the design of the headlights reinforces its striking looks. In order to create the characteristic six-eyed face of the X family— another element that makes the vehicle, once again, instantly recognizable—this car comes with the familiar twin circular elements combined with LED foglights. As for the rear lights, it represent a symbiosis of the T-shape lighting contour shared by other BMW X models and the L shape from BMW coupés.
Moving to the interior, everyday practicality and functionality become the main focal points. The well-arranged and adjustable driving position, the dashboard (which has all
the infotainment bells and whistles we come to expect from this class of automobile) and the panoramic roof further adds a sense of spaciousness inside.
DRIVING DYNAMICS
This BMW X2’s chassis and suspension system promise undiluted driving fun, while its engine strikes the ideal balance between sporty dynamics and exceptional efficiency. And agility, too, thereby allowing this model to generate unbeatable levels of driving pleasure. Fitted with the latest 7-speed dual-clutch steptronic automatic transmission and BMW’s predictive gearshift technology, the X2 provides smooth shifts as well as efficient fuel consumption.
Unsurprisingly, the BMW X2 sDrive18i M Sport X also stays comfortably steady while going through all manners of twists and turns. It simply handles superbly. Going pedal to the metal, the car’s engine can push it from zero to 100km/h in a mere 9.6 seconds. Going by the numbers, the car’s BMW TwinPower Turbo 1.5L 3-cylinder engine, produces 140hp and 220nm of torque with fuel consumption rates of 15,9 l/km and CO2 emission rated at 143 g/km.
FINAL VERDICT
Compared to its bigger brothers—namely the BMW X4 and X6—the BMW X2 makes a wholly distinctive impression. With its unmistakable design and sporty handling, the BMW X2 creates a bold impression, not only within the BMW X family but also in its entire class. The ultimate factor here is the car’s exterior design, which essentially combines the fast-moving body language and low-slung proportions of a coupé with, of course, the robust construction of a BMW X model.
The BMW X2 sDrive18i M Sport X offers unique driving adventures and the kind of dynamic design you will never forget. All in all, if you’re after a sports activity coupé that stands out from the crowd, look no further.
