e ver since launching his namesake brand back in 1985, tommy hilfiger has always stayed true to the classic american cool style. inspired by the iconic pop culture references and his american heritage, tommy hilfiger has an optimistic vision to break conventions and celebrate individuality. The brand gained notoriety in the nineties when hip-hop was at the peak of the music industry. The brand strategically repackaged its preppy style into a cool new mode and soon enough everybody is wearing the red, white and blue pieces from tommy hilfiger. it was the “it” brand of the decade. come the end of the 2010s where street wear brands wear influencing the fashion world and everything with retro branding became the must have item.
and as a true lifestyle brand, tommy hilfiger is constantly evolving and adapting. The brand knows how to grab attention and attend to its newfound audience. case in point; when the brand collaborated with international supermodel gigi hadid in fall 2016 and the tommyxgigi collection managed to sell out in just 24 hours. Besides gigi hadid, tommy hilfiger also tapped Zendaya to co-design the collection. But that’s for the women’s collaboration. let’s talk about the men’s.

This fall marks the third lap of tommy hilfiger’s partnership with none other formula one world champion, lewis hamilton. he is often considered the best driver of his generation and the way he approaches life with positivity and how he keeps challenging himself constantly is admirable. he has a deep passion for creativity
and fashion, so this collaboration is a match made in heaven. Their successful partnership has always been about building on the strong tommy hilfiger menswear heritage and infusing it with lewis’s personal style.
as for the design process, lewis is really into the details and brought his unique vision to every design; he has the consumer in mind and thinks what style would work for them. The fall 2019 tommyXlewis capsule collection is inspired from easy styles like the tracksuit to more formal looks like the wool coat. Their aim was to capture fashion-on-the-go with a modern twist. This season is about the clashing of two distinct worlds – classic american sportswear and modern streetwear designs. The signature “lh” logo, which blends the iconic tommy hilfiger flag and lewis’ initials, has evolved into a minimalistic black square design.

There’s always something to learn in every partnership. for lewis, the biggest lesson he has learnt from hilfiger is to pay attention to the details, no matter how big or small. hilfiger considers every element of a garment and collaborates with the right people to make his vision come to life.
The Collection
The fall 2019 tommyxlewis is perfect for entering the colder months. The camel wool coat can be paired with the fleece college-inspired tracksuit or the reversible puffer jacket with chunky boots. for daytime looks, try pairing the dark red polar-fleece bomber jacket with chinos and a classic t-shirt for a more timeless look.
if you pay attention, the word “Blessed” is used throughout the collection and it’s not because it would look good on the pieces. for lewis, the word has special meaning. Throughout his career, he has had amazing opportunities in racing, fashion and music, which have taken him around the world to meet new people and draw inspiration from different cultures. for him, the word “Blessed” is about remembering to always be thankful for what he has.
This third collection has warm burgundy and neutral tones that blends with timeless check and red and purple tie-dye on the classic tracksuit, turtleneck, wool coat and parka. The “lh” logo has evolved into a minimalistic black box design that continues to celebrate tommy hilfiger’s iconic flag and the British racing driver’s initials. over 70 percent of the apparels use sustainable materials and are made from 100 percent organic cotton and recycled materials because sustainability is an important matters to the duo.
