HAIL TO THE KING
THE MACALLAN 72 YEARS OLD IN LALIQUE SEES THE UNION OF MASTERY IN GLASSWORK AND SPIRITS UNLIKE ANY OTHER
When there’s something really special to celebrate, nothing really beats a well-aged whisky to add some spirits—literally and figuratively—to the festivities. For a casual enthusiast, a 12-year-old single malt would definitely be fine, while perhaps a more seasoned connoisseur might opt for an 18-yearold or more. But when the one doing the celebrating is none other than legendary whisky-maker The Macallan and what’s being celebrated is the brand’s new Distillery and Visitor Experience, something truly peerless is called for.
To mark this seminal moment in The Macallan’s history, the brand has introduced an incredible limited-edition release: The Macallan 72 Years Old in Lalique. The “72 years” part means that this particular whisky began its journey to maturation in the late 1940s, during the optimistic postWorld War II period when the world rediscovered its passion for innovation and reinvention. It goes without saying that this is the oldest whisky ever released by The Macallan—and as such, it definitely deserves to be presented in the most elegant manner possible.
The decanter which houses The Macallan 72 Years Old is created by Lalique—one of the most revered names in glass working. The design beautifully captures the clean lines and natural curves of The Macallan’s new Distillery. In particular, the unique shape of the Distillery’s roof has been immaculately rendered in the finest crystal.
Each decanter is then housed in a custom-made presentation case which, in turn, takes its inspiration from the interior of the Distillery. These cases are designed by Burgess Studio and handcrafted by the masters at N.E.J. Stevenson, a furniture maker with a Royal Warrant—as in, it has been appointed by and creates pieces commisioned by Britain’s royal household.
The golden amber glow of The Macallan 72 Year Old, gleaming in its unique crystal decanter and sitting on top of its meticulouslycrafted presentation box is arguably the ultimate display piece, to say nothing of the delicate, peaty spirits contained within. The Macallan has always prided itself in its long and rich history; now whisky enthusiasts and connoisseurs—and you—can own a piece of that history as the brand celebrates one of its grandest milestones.
