The Upcycle Collection Alexander McQueen
With most of the world still on hold and manufacturers shut down or working at limited capacity, Sarah Burton and the team had to the brand’s spring/summer 2021 collection with what they have. Burton’s solution was to make a men’s collection from old stock, overprinting or overdyeing fabrics with pearly embellishments added here and there.
But the tailoring was still fierce and with a touch of femininity, with nipped waits on suit jackets; wide, dramatic skirts blooming from black-tie jackets; slim trousers cinched with big, sculptural obi belts; and regal pearl brooches dotted onto curvy, shapely coats. For a collection that is made mostly out of upcycled overstock fabrics, Burton did a marvelous and superb job.
