DA MAN

AN ODE TO ADONIS

-

T hroughout the years, the DA MAN team has featured new and established stars from Hollywood, fresh talents and senior performers from Indonesia’s own movie industry, along with a slew of fashion designers, creative directors and other artistic headliners from the world of fashion. But one thing that I think sets this publication apart, is the appreciation we reserve for the models that appear in everything from our fashion spreads, watch highlights and even grooming stories.

The world of professional male models is full of stories—stories of lucky breaks and breakthroughs, stories of extreme physical challenges and profound anxiety, stories of inspiring creative streaks and stoic professionalism. In short, there is so much more to modeling than just a handsome face or toned physique, and there are so many stories—both inspiring and relatable—behind every campaign image, runway show or fragrance ad. And we feel that those stories need to be told.

So, in the grand tradition of our DA MAN Style editions of years past, we present to you today three stories of three very different models. Representing the new generation of professional models who started their careers in a world gripped by a pandemic we have Troy Neff. Then we have Désiré Mia, a highly sought-after model who established quite a name for himself in a short amount of time. And to bring you a story of how a model can branch out in this ever-connected world, we brought back an old friend of the magazine: Charlie Matthews.

A model is successful if he can tell a story through body language. In this issue, we invite you once again to see a glimpse of their lives that is rarely seen when we ask them to put into words what they often do without uttering a single syllable.

Joining these three in our lineup of stories this time, we have Gavin Stenhouse from the hit TV series “Kung Fu”—a show that I believe might spark a bit of nostalgia in many of you. We also reconnect with rising Indonesian actor Refal Hady and bring you an exclusive fashion story set in one of the most amazing new hotels at the island of the gods, Andaz Bali.

In short, for this mid-year issue, we have plenty of exciting content for you to delve into. And, lastly, more surprises await you in the next couple of months on our website and social media channels. For now, though, I invite you to flip through the pages and enjoy our June/July ’21 issue. Happy reading...
