THE RED COLLECTION CELEBRATES SOME OF THE BEST SINGLE MALTS BY THE MACALLAN AND ONE OF THE MOST MEANINGFUL HUES IN THE DISTILLERY’S LONG HISTORY

Back in 1903, Roderick Kemp launched The Macallan Choice Old range which, as the story goes, were shipped in cases labelled with distinctive red print to distinguish them from the distillery’s more common black labels. Then, in 1980, the release of The Macallan’s oldest vintages at the time was marked by a red ribbon. In short, the color red has always been in present throughout the brand’s long history. In fact, the surname of

The Macallan’s founder— Alexander Reid—actually means “the red one” in the Scots language.

Today, the color rises to the forefront again as The Macallan introduces The Red Collection. At the heart of the collection is The Macallan 40 Years Old, The Macallan 50 Years Old and The Macallan 60 Years Old—the oldest ongoing expressions ever offered by the brand. From time to time, the collection will also welcome guest members including The Macallan 71 Years Old, The Macallan 74 Years Old and The Macallan 78 Years Old.

Each expression in

The Red Collection is encased in an exquisite oak presentation box created from the same sustainable European oak used to craft The Macallan’s exceptional oak casks. A bespoke handcrafted case that can house the trio of ongoing or guest releases has also been developed by Scottish artisan furniture and objet

d’art manufacturer, Method Design Studio.

As the proverbial cherry on top of The Red Collection’s presentation, each of the ongoing releases is hand finished and signed by Kirsteen Campbell, who was appointed Master Whisky Maker at The Macallan in 2019 and is the first woman to occupy the role in the history of the brand. Sarah Burgess, Lead Whisky Maker for The Macallan, has signed the initial guest releases.

It goes without saying that, at the moment,

The Red Collection truly represents the pinnacle of The Macallan’s rich portfolio of whiskies, and will surely be one of the most sought-after whisky selections among connoisseurs for decades to come.
