WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE HYUNDAI STARIA, A FUTURISTIC MULTI-PURPOSE VEHICLE THAT GIVES A NEW MEANING TO MOBILITY

Hyundai Motors Indonesia continues to enhance its line-up with vehicles that are helping to build solutions for a more sustainable future. Its latest model, Staria, is a futuristic multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that’s suitable for everyday lifestyles. In a way, it offers a more meaningful life experience through a combination between the luxury of a prestigious exterior design, maximum comfort on the interior with maximum space utilization, and flexible passenger seat arrangements.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Inspired by the curve of light that illuminates the Earth’s horizon at sunrise when viewed from space, Hyundai Staria’s sleek exterior at first glance is defined by a single stroke running from front to rear, evoking the streamlined form of a really cool spaceship. Up front, the grille with a bold, exclusive look and unique pattern is also enhanced with horizontal LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and positioning lamp, that run along the side of the vehicle.

Inside, its interior applies a simple and modest layout to highlight driver’s convenience and passengers’ comfort, while staying faithful to its original value as an MPV. Interestingly, it also carries the concept of multi-open and multi-purpose spaces for passengers with the feel of a premium lounge. As such, the cruise ship-inspired interior delivers an open and unique atmosphere through its innovative design architecture. The vehicle’s lower beltlines and panoramic windows also create a spacious, stimulating environment for all passengers. Put simply, Staria’s simple interior layout focuses only on the essentials to provide more room and flexibility to passengers.

Speaking about passengers, the new MPV comes with two types: Staria Signature 7 (7-seater) and Staria Signature 9 (9-seater). As the name implies, The Signature 7 type is equipped with Premium Relaxation Seats in the second row, which can be reclined automatically and shifted for easy access or to maximize storage space. On the other hand, the Signature 9 type is equipped with a Swivelling Independent Seat in the second row that able to swivel 180 degrees to face passengers in the third row.

If anything, these small yet important details—along with its spacious legroom, which is one of the best in its segment—make Staria ideal for corporate vehicles or mobile offices, as passengers can turn their seats around and conduct meetings face to face. It also provides mobility solutions that make transit time between destinations more accommodating, productive and rewarding. More importantly, families will also find these swivelling seats convenient as rear-facing passengers will have easy access to those seated in the third row.

ON THE ROAD

At its core, Staria is endowed with superior engine performance in the presence of an efficient and environmentally friendly powertrain, namely the R2.2 VGT diesel engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission. In a way, this type of powertrain allows Staria to have a maximum performance of up to 177 PS/3,800rpm with maximum torque of 430 Nm/1,500-2500 rpm, and a top speed of 185km/h.

Aside to the additional comfort, Staria is also at the top of its class when it comes to the variety of smart features for safety and convenience. For instance, there’s a Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), a system that automatically warns of a potential risk of a collision from the front, while the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Warning (BCW) can detect and monitor vehicles coming from behind. These features, if needed, will automatically apply the brakes if the system assesses a collision will occur.

On top of that, this MPV also features a Surround View Monitor (SVM) that provides a 360-degree view of the entire vehicle, making it easier for the driver to park the vehicle, especially in a relatively narrow area. In a nutshell, Staria provides cutting-edge and convenience features, while at the same time secured the highest level of vehicle safety.

All in all, Staria’s debut surely embodies Hyundai Motor’s ‘ inside-out’ design methodology that emphasizes interior spaciousness and usability. With maximized space utilization, flexible seating with long sliding capability, along with highest level of safety, Hyundai establishes a model for Purpose Built Vehicles in the future mobility era that’s suitable for business as well as family.
