STORY OF BALI
With so much to offer from the unique culture and sun- drenched beaches to exceptional dining and wonderful hospitality, it’s no surprise that Bali features high on the bucket list of both international and domestic tourists alike.
WELCOME TO THE ISLAND OF THE GODS
Bali, the island of the Gods, is a name that conjures up colourful images of a magical and mysterious tropical paradise and is unquestionably a destination that always exceeds expectations; not only because of its tropical sunshine, iconic rice fields and palmfringed beaches, of which there are plenty, but as an island bursting with vibrant culture and outstanding gastronomic experiences, all backed by the superb natural hospitality of the Balinese.
The island offers travellers a wide choice of accessible destinations that suit all groups, from the jet- set to the family beachside holiday. On
the coast choose from the chaos of Kuta and the indulgent pleasures of Seminyak and Legian, or the relaxed vibe of Canggu and Sanur. Inland the island’s capital of arts and culture, Ubud and its surroundings, are the most popular.
AROUND BALI
The Kuta-seminyak- Legian strip is without doubt the busiest part of the island and home to some extremely good places to stay and a host of fun things to do. Further south is the five- star enclave of Nusa Dua and a little way up the coast is the quieter resort and fishing village of Sanur.
Located in the uplands of Bali, Ubud is one of Bali’s most popular destinations to stay or to take a day trip. It’s awash with traditional arts, iconic architecture and excellent dining and surrounded by rainforest and terraced rice paddies dotted with beautiful Balinese temples and shrines.
For those who prefer a more adventurous excursion check out the impressive white- water rafting and waterfalls or take a sunrise hike up Mount Batur or meander through the iconic stepped rice fields. Visit one or more of Bali’s incredibly beautiful and deeply spiritual temples, like Tanah Lot, Uluwatu or Tirta Empul. For a truly unique cultural experience, a trip back in time to the isolated Bali Aga villages of Tenganan and Trunyan is a must.
DINING OUT
As tourist numbers have increased over recent years, Bali has evolved into an exciting culinary playground with some of the best restaurants, bistros and bars in Indonesia. These offer an array of Indonesian and international fine- dining alongside a plethora of more casual culinary experiences with great food and drinks served in a laid- back ambience for a more relaxed vibe.
Seminyak and Ubud are the class leaders for standalone venues and feature many of Indonesia’s most notable restaurants, but many of the island’s resorts also offer outstanding dining. Catering to all tastes, many are famous for their exceptional buffets as well as sophisticated fine dining.
