J PMQ

Another heritage building, PMQ once housed Queen’s College and Police Married Quarters for police officers and their families from the 1950s. Now billed as “The Creative Heart of Hong Kong”, design enthusiasts come here to support local retail brands like 12-yearold Kapok, which brings in Tammy & Benjamin bags and Offgrid scarves among others. Other local names include Cecilia Ma (check out her quirky box clutches) and Chailie Ho (for feminine womenswear). No. 35 Aberdeen Street, Central. Tel: +852 2870 2335

J H Queen’s

H Queen’s, a 24-storey upscale art and lifestyle building, features an auction house and seven art galleries, including Whitestone Gallery, Tang Contemporary Art (which ran a solo exhibition of works by Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei) and Ora-ora. It’s also home to five restaurants, including Virgilio Martinez’s Ichu Peru 80 Queen’s Road Central. www.hqueens.com.hk

J Mott 32

Housed in the Standard Chartered Building, this perpetually packed dim sum destination is not your typical Chinese restaurant. You are led down an escalator to the basement, then to a dimly lit staircase surrounded by mirrors. Our piping hot ibérico pork Shanghainese soup dumplings is a savoury delight. Bonus points for the really good cocktails. You won’t go wrong with the Hanami, which is a mix of Tanqueray gin, umeshu, yuzu and ginger beer garnished with shiso. Standard Chartered Bank Building, 4-4A Des Voeux Rd Central, Central. Tel: +852 2885 8688. www.mott32.com
