New ho­tel bars re­de­fined

Clas­sic cock­tail spe­cial­ist Jig­ger & Pony has moved out of its Amoy Street digs af­ter six years, and re­opened in a sleek, split-level ho­tel set­ting. Its am­bi­tious mag­a­zine-in­spired menu is di­vided into ‘ed­i­to­rial’ sec­tions such as Clas­sics vs Sig­na­tures, where their de­fin­i­tive Ne­groni is pit­ted against a flo­ral ver­sion, Madame Pres­i­dent. They’ve even man­aged to make the Sin­ga­pore Sling ex­cit­ing again, with lap­sang sou­chong depths and the nat­u­ral sweet­ness of rhubarb. Lobby, Amara Sin­ga­pore, 165 Tan­jong Pa­gar Road. Tel: 9621 1074 At 1927, SO Sof­i­tel Sin­ga­pore’s new al fresco rooftop bar that pays homage to its build­ing’s year of birth, equa­to­rial cock­tails hold fort. The menu is equally creative, told through the ‘tele­grams’ of a pair of sep­a­rated love­birds in 1927. The Pain Killer ($22) is a nat­u­ral favourite, show­cas­ing Plan­ta­tion Orig­i­nal Dark rum, co­conut cream and pineap­ple juice, while a Fog Cut­ter ($24) takes things to the next level with a de­cep­tively re­fresh­ing blend of Pierre Fer­rand 1840 Cognac, Tan­queray gin, Lus­tao Amon­til­lado sherry, Plan­ta­tion Orig­i­nal Dark, orgeat and cit­rus. 35 Robin­son Road.
