KANAAN BLACK BEAUTY 2012

In the Helan mountains of Ningxia, Kanaan Winery’s winemaker and founder Wang Fang has paid tribute to the eponymous local horses with this blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. The grapes are from 10-year-old vines grown on gravel soil with high clay content, giving a roundness and fruitiness to the Merlot in particular. After 18 to 24 months in French oak, the wine is redolent with ripe blueberry and cherry, with ample spice, tannins and a hint of flint, for uncomplicated palates.
