DOMAINE DU 1ER JUIN RIESLING 2017

Founder Lu Dajing, originally from Shanghai, established his first vines 20 years ago, but picked his ideal site for Domaine du 1er Juin in 2007 at the southern end of Helan mountain. Daughter Lu Mengxi makes the wine with a nod to Old World winemaking techniques such as natural yeasts. The Riesling is unoaked and at 12% exudes a clear typicity of character, from the petrol on the nose to apricots and peaches on the palate. While the fruitiness is dominant, there’s a welcomed minerality and promising energy from this style. $78 from Vinrepublic.com
