Yet you shouldn’t overlook one of the component grapes in Amarone, the versatile Corvina which gets its own 100% billing here. Named for the Italian word gemma, meaning both vine bud and precious gem, this bottling is aptly made only in good vintages from partial air-dried fruit. The result is bold and balanced, bringing layers of black cherry, toasted mocha and rounded tannins in each concentrated sip.
