TIME FOR THE NEW
When it comes to throwing an anniversary party, there are new rules and etiquettes in this era of new normal.
After a year of limited social interaction, we have come to realise the value of good ol’ fashioned, faceto-face gatherings. Weddings, birthdays and other milestones had to be celebrated virtually as we learned how to navigate this pandemic. Fortunately, by now we have learned enough about the new normal social etiquette and how to send out invitations to our nearest and dearest. Whether it is the first or the 25th anniversary, here are some tips to throw a memorable bash with your better half and favourite people.
MAKE IT ALFRESCO
Be it a semi-formal sit-down dinner or casual family-style shared meal, moving the party outside is not only safe for everyone involved but it also creates a socially interactive setting. Verdant gardens and poolside or beachfront locations will undoubtedly delight the guests. If outdoor dining is not an option, throw the feast indoors but make sure the space is well-ventilated, for instance, have the windows open to allow fresh air circulation.
KEEP IT SMALL
Always check the regulations on the limit of guests you are allowed to have. Create your guest list based on that information. Although it is tempting to have everyone seated at one long table, it is also recommended to split the seating into several small round tables. It does not disturb social interaction and makes the guests feel more comfortable in taking off their face masks while they eat or drink. Bear in mind that despite the RSVPS, there may be last-minute cancellations from your guests, so always expect changes.
EVERYTHING IS CLEAN
Apart from making sure hand sanitisers are accessible to all the guests, it is also advisable to hire the professionals to make sure that health and hygiene protocols are strictly observed. Work with the best caterer, restaurant or hotel because they would be more likely to apply food safety standards and services. If you decide to serve the food buffet-style, make sure there are catering staff in charge of handling the food. Provide wipes and extra disposable face masks, just in case your guests require one.
LIMIT ALCOHOL SERVICE
As much as we love a free-flow bar or generously poured Champagne, make sure that no guests gets too loud or too tipsy with enthusiastic consumption. Try to keep your guests on their best behaviour – at least for the time being. Save the alcohol for, hopefully, next year.
RENT IT TO MAKE IT
Find a local party rental company to lend everything that you need on the day. Be it the tableware, napkins, tables, or chairs, renting will make your life easier. You don’t have to deal with the cleaning and disinfection when the party is over.
