Ensconced in the uber-chic Pondok Indah Mall Street Gallery and accessed through a private lift, HAVANA occupies a comfy niche and discretion that its visitors will appreciate. The décor of the bar-restaurant is decidedly masculine, with warm tones from dark polished wood, intricate steel accoutrements and stretches of comfy dark hazelnut sofa booths perfect for a weekend rendezvous.
A mezzanine cuts the dining area into two distinct levels – the lower level for those who like the comfort of easy bar access and the segregated mezzanine level is perfect for more intimate gatherings and catch-ups. Framed quirky posters and illustrations take up a swath of wall space, an artsy touch that gives the space a splash of vibrant colour.
HAVANA at its heart is a bar first and foremost, despite the wide selection of scrumptious culinary delights. The bar is a sleek affair of dark polished granite and warm toned marble sidings. A row of dapper bar stools line up invitingly for guests to pull up and admire the wide selection of imported artisan spirits stashed up in the handsome wooden niches. HAVANA's talented mixologists are always more than happy to chat, speculate and offer up a selection of fine potations for the bar patrons. The drinks program is headed by head mixologist Andru Adha, a veteran of award-winning bars in Jakarta. Despite his youthful exterior, Andru has garnered various accolades in prestigious such as the best barista at Café Vergano Barisata Competition 2016. Mojito lovers are recommended to order one of the three Mojitos available at HAVANA. Our personal favourite is the Falermary Mojito, an adventurous concoction of Jamaican white rum, falernum syrup, rosemary, lime, mint and soda water.
The focus on whiskies is apparent in the bar-restaurant's sumptuous collection of the popular spirit. For fans of The Macallan, The Macallan M is a mandatory indulgence – a masterfully blended whisky crafted from seven unique casks of The Macallan chosen from 195,000 barrels. Lovers of blended whiskies would be remiss not to try the
John Walker & Sons Odyssey – a blended whisky which accentuates the flavours of three extraordinary single malts through the process of maturation in European oak casks. Our personal favourite is the Hibiki 30 Years Old, a perfect marriage of single malts from Yamazaki and Hakushu, aged to perfection in a variety of casks – the end result is the quintessential expression of Japanese whisky perfection.
Fans of HAVANA enjoy the bar's nightly promotions from Monday to Saturday. On Latin Night Monday, come early for some latin dances as well as 1 for 1 cocktails and whiskeys. Thursdays are Cuban-style rum and cigar night. Friday Feels will take you back in time with the top 40 old school songs.
