Rosso at Shangri-La Ho­tel, Jakarta is a cosy restau­rant open for lunch and din­ner with com­fort­able seat­ing that en­cour­ages long meals and long con­ver­sa­tions. The open iron lat­tice di­viders add nooks and cran­nies for added pri­vacy while al­low­ing the nat­u­ral light to flood in. The com­bi­na­tion of nat­u­ral tones and vi­brantly coloured ceil­ing panel and lights, of course fea­tur­ing plenty of red hues, add to the warm am­bi­ence. As be­fits an Ital­ian restau­rant, the wel­come is friendly and the menu full of au­then­tic Ital­ian temp­ta­tions in­spired by Chef Gian­franco (Franco) Pir­rone's child­hood mem­o­ries, pre­pared us­ing the finest in­gre­di­ents and plated with re­fined flair. Some of the herbs are even picked from the ho­tel's Shang Gar­den nurs­ery.

Among the many choices on the menu, the tuna tartare with saf­fron sauce makes a fresh and zingy start to your meal and can be fol­lowed by a se­lec­tion of freshly made pas­tas and gourmet piz­zas. If you're stuck for choice, we sug­gest the pasta trio of seafood ravi­oli with pesto, spinach and pump­kin gnoc­chi with parme­san sauce and beet­root spaghetti with gor­gonzola cheese, or one of the gor­geous risot­tos. If you're a pizza fan, the porcini mush­room and foie gras pizza is a must. For heartier fare, it has to be the chef's mom's favourite grilled lamb chops with porcini mush­room and roasted gar­lic-truf­fle risotto, or one his seafood dishes with a Si­cil­ian twist. A small lunchtime brunch is avail­able daily, with more choices on Sun­day, and the drinks menu is per­fectly matched to the hearty Mediter­ranean fare.
