The Barolo Wine Dinner

-

Connoisseurs of fine dining and fine Italian wines were treated to a memorable evening at The Legian Seminyak, Bali when its Michelin-starred executive chef, Stéphane Gortina, crafted an exceptional five-course dinner paired exquisitely with wines from Beni di Batasiolo Winery.

Overlooking the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean and lulled by a gentle sea breeze, guests gathered for the convivial evening over prosecco and canapés, before moving to The Restaurant by The Legian, where the winery's Paola Marrai introduced the wines and explained how they are passionately crafted with a combination of age-old tradition and futuristic vision that conserves their rich identity and the soul of the vineyard.

The opening wine, an elegant, fruity Batasiolo Gavi DOCG del comune di

Gavi Granée 2017, indeed lived up to this billing and was a treat for guests alongside an outstanding vegetable and prawn tartlet. Following this, guests were delighted with an earthy black truffle risotto perfectly paired with Batasiolo Barolo DOCG

2014, after which was succulently rich beef tenderloin topped with foie gras paired with a sublime Batasiolo Barolo Riserva 2006. The brie de meaux with walnut and chive was idyllic with the full-bodied yet gentle Batasiolo Barolo DOCG Briccolina 2008, bringing to an end the savoury part of the menu with aplomb.

The gorgeous dinner ended with a nod to

Bali in the pineapple “tian”, served with the lightly frizzante Batasiolo Moscato D'Asti DOCG offering floral, honeysuckle and apricot aromas. As always, The Restaurant at The Legian presented a classically sophisticated event that was heartily enjoyed by discerning gourmands, who are, no doubt, eagerly awaiting the next wine dinner.
