: What are your responsibi­lities?

Erik: One of my many responsibi­lities is to create a platform for the talented people in my team and to elevate them to be better in terms of life purpose, character developmen­t and, of course, progressin­g and enhancing their skills.

: What makes a typical day?

E: My morning routine consists of me being awake at 7am and having breakfast with my wife and daughter, before dropping my daughter off to school. Afterwards, I go to several meetings, one of which is my weekly operations meeting with my head office. When checking emails, I usually go to a nearby café or a quiet location and I finish my work more or less around 6 or 7pm. However, since we have just opened our steakhouse, there is no day off as I travel quite frequently. When in Bali, I have back to back meetings in the afternoon and arrive at SI JIN during the dinner service to oversee all the operationa­l aspects. My duty as CEO is to ensure that everything is running according to plan and all the puzzle pieces are matched and working together. Despite my hectic schedule, I also play tennis three times a week and I end my day having dinner with my wife and daughter.

: Your best attribute?

E: I’m a very observant person, I always seek and find great potential or talent in people.

: Team player or team leader?

E: Team player. I’m so grateful to have such a great team. We always try to stay ahead of the curve and don’t just follow what everybody else is doing. We like to test the boundaries big time. It has been a huge success in our hospitalit­y establishm­ent.

: Who has been the most influentia­l figure in your career to date?

E: Tilman Fertitta, the owner of Landry’s properties, Golden Nugget Casinos and the Houston Rockets NBA team.

: Name one special thing about your restaurant?

E: We are very proud of how SI JIN has become a dining destinatio­n in Bali. We are not just a restaurant, we look at the establishm­ent from different angles. SI JIN is a steakhouse in which we hand pick all of our cuts. You will find rare and convention­al selections, any of which can be cooked according to your preference and liking. Complement­ing our meat selections, we have irresistib­le dishes and phenomenal cocktails – truly a dining experience beyond compare. However, we continue to research and learn more every day as the market is constantly changing and we too have to keep our eye on the game.

: How do you unwind?

E: I like to listen to music. For me, music stimulates the brain, both creative and non-creative aspects.
