THE COCKTAIL CLUB
Located smack-dab in the middle of Jakarta's most buzzing area, The Cocktail Club is the latest creation from the team behind Union Brasserie, Bakery & Bar. Solely run by bartenders, this watering hole creates original tipples that feature local ingredients, inventive techniques and unique flavour combinations.
For example, Kiki Moka, Indonesia's bar industr y pioneer, created Batavia Milk Punch which consists of Cap Tikus, a traditional spirit from North Sulawesi made by distilling the sap of palm trees. Here it's combined with spiced rum, Italian herbal liqueur, oolong tea milk, strawberr y, pineapple and kalamansi, then clarified and aged in beeswa x gruyere. Meanwhile, the classic cocktails are faultless. The Irish Coffee ju xtaposes Jameson-spiked V60 Coffee, kept at a consistent 70°C and sweetened with deep, dark gula Melaka and just-thick-enough, cold cream.
Follow the arrow upstairs from an idyllic French bistro in Senopati and you'll enter the plush, dimly illuminated space of The Cocktail Club. Leather armchairs and darkgreen velvet booths dot a space around the large, hook-shaped bar and its adjoining whisky bar. But even with genuine vintage posters from the late 1800s and stained-glass windows, The Cocktail Club never takes itself too seriously, with Kiki occasionally playing local tunes or going around with a tray of tequila and sangrita shots.
