One of the oldest hotels in Salzburg, Hotel Stein presents a new fresh look inspired by

its hometown and the city of Venice.

It’s fair to say that Hotel Stein in Salzburg, Austria has stood the test of time. The hotel has been in the same location, on the bank of Salzach River, since 1399. On March 2018, Hotel Stein was re-opened after it underwent an extensive two-year renovation. The new look combines the design aesthetics of two cities, Salzburg and Venice, an homage to the Italian influence in Salzburg.

The hotel commissioned the works of renowned companies and artists to design the interior. Venetian glassmaker Barovier & Toso was in charge of the lightings and glass arts, Rubelli, another Italian company, handled the fabrics of the interior and there are photographs representing the two cities captured by photographer Luigi Caputo plastered on the walls of the hotel. By far the most impressive installation found at Hotel Stein is the hundreds of glowing blue glass discs hanging from the top floor of the hotel.

One unifying theme of the hotel’s interior is the colour blue that can be seen everywhere. The blue colour is said to represent the Salzach River and canals in Venice.

Hotel Stein has a total of 56 rooms available to book, all of which have a minimalist, clean look, with some rooms featuring a black and white photograph as wallpaper. The honeymoon suite located on the second floor offers a spectacular fortress view as well as Salzburg’s Old Town and Salzach River. The room is adorned by a historic stucco ceiling and glass works by the aforementioned glassmaker, and not far from the bedroom there’s a glass- enclosed room that leads to the bathroom with a freestanding bathtub in it.

For those looking to wine and dine, head to the seventh floor of the hotel where the Seven Senses restaurant is located. Situated on the rooftop, the restaurant presents a panoramic view of the Old Town. Guests can enjoy a selection of wine and modern cuisines accompanied by breathtaking views. The restaurant is open from day to night, offering a la carte or continental breakfast every morning.
