Indonesia Design - Defining Luxury
A Contribution to Society
PT Arkonin has long contributed to the city’s social environment in the form of public facilities and infrastructures. From pedestrian pathways to shopping centres, sports facilities to airports, they’ve done it all. In Bintaro Design District 2019, they designed a simple facility installed in an outdoor futsal field just across their office.
Founded in 1961 as PT Pembangunan Jaya Design Department, PT Arkonin was established as an independent design and engineering consultant firm in 1975. It provides a full range of services, from planning, design and engineering to construction management services. An open exhibition of their highlighted projects was held at their office in Bintaro during BDD 2019. Aside from the exhibition, they also scheduled an Open Studio and Film Screening, where visitors can see the behind-the-scenes of Arkonin’s projects. For the installation, they used a part of RPTRA (Child-friendly Integrated Public Spaces) concept because it fits the Inclusivity theme well. They translated it from someone else’s view, in this case from the point of view of children who need to have a safe and comfortable space for activities. The installation was a 3x6 metre tribune made of wood, which partly functions as a shelter from the piercing sun or rain. The design was simple and easy to comprehend by anyone. The field had no seating facility before, so this project is their contribution to the neighbourhood.
