Keeping Indonesia’s Traditional Architecture Alive
WHAT Film Premiere WHEN 11 January 2020 WHERE Institute Français d’indonesie, Jakarta
To celebrate its 55th anniversary, the University of Indonesia’s Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Engineering (FTUI) initiated the creation of “Ka Sa’o: Daur Hidup Rumah Adat”, a documentary film by the university’s Loka Dokumentasi Arsitektur Vernakular (LDAV) focusing on traditional Indonesian architecture and its current crisis. LDAV was created to manage and archive all data and documentation of traditional vernacular architecture in the country.
This documentary is the result of LDAV’S research from several parts of Indonesia, with this one focusing on Kampung Tololela in Jerebu’u District, Ngadha Regency, Flores NTT. The Head of the FTUI Architecture Department Dr. Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto said that with the presence of LDAV, vernacular architecture is now documented before it goes extinct and is converted into modern architecture.
