Pres­i­dent Joko Wi­dodo joins 65,000 par­tic­i­pants in danc­ing the poco-poco on Jakarta’s streets

As part of In­done­sia’s 73rd In­de­pen­dence Day cel­e­bra­tions, Pres­i­dent Joko “Jokowi” Wi­dodo pre­sented hon­orary awards to eight prom­i­nent fig­ures for their distin­guished ser­vice to the coun­try on Au­gust 14. Both Gusti Kan­jeng Ratu He­mas, Queen Con­sort of the King­dom of Yo­gyakarta, and Ir­man Gus­man, the for­mer Deputy Speaker for the Re­gional Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Coun­cil, were named as re­cip­i­ents of the Bin­tang Ma­ha­pu­tra Utama award.

Mean­while, phi­lan­thropist Dato’ Sri Prof. Dr Tahir MBA earned the Ma­ha­pu­tra Nararya award in recog­ni­tion of his par­tic­i­pa­tion in fields ben­e­fi­cial to the progress, well­ness, and pros­per­ity of the na­tion. For their distin­guished ser­vices pro­mot­ing the arts and cul­ture, the late R.J. Katamsi, artist and founderof ASRI In­done­sia’s first art academy, and Prof. Dr R.M. Soedar­sono, a dancer, chore­og­ra­pher, and aca­demic, also both re­ceived the Bin­tang Bu­daya Parama Dharma award. Truly a de­serv­ing award in­deed to those who de­served it.
