President Joko Widodo joins 65,000 participants in dancing the poco-poco on Jakarta’s streets
As part of Indonesia’s 73rd Independence Day celebrations, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo presented honorary awards to eight prominent figures for their distinguished service to the country on August 14. Both Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hemas, Queen Consort of the Kingdom of Yogyakarta, and Irman Gusman, the former Deputy Speaker for the Regional Representative Council, were named as recipients of the Bintang Mahaputra Utama award.
Meanwhile, philanthropist Dato’ Sri Prof. Dr Tahir MBA earned the Mahaputra Nararya award in recognition of his participation in fields beneficial to the progress, wellness, and prosperity of the nation. For their distinguished services promoting the arts and culture, the late R.J. Katamsi, artist and founderof ASRI Indonesia’s first art academy, and Prof. Dr R.M. Soedarsono, a dancer, choreographer, and academic, also both received the Bintang Budaya Parama Dharma award. Truly a deserving award indeed to those who deserved it.
