THE HIGHLIGHT OF MARCH is the return to these shores of supermodel Petra Nemcova. She will grace the 24th Anniversary Annual Charity Gala of Plaza Indonesia, the nation’s pioneer luxury shopping centre, with her inspiring presence. The gala aims to raise funds for Petra’s Happy Hearts Fund so that it can build 10 new schools for children living in areas devastated by Jakarta’s recent floods.

To raise awareness of the event, which takes place at Grand Hyatt Jakarta on March 18, I invited nine good friends - Shannon Masrin, Audrey Purwana, Lucy Kaschull, Dina Lestari, Mandy Budiman, Dimas Beck, Sistha Alicia Tjokrosaputro, Charmie Hamami and Raline Shah – to pose for special portraits for this issue and to give us their perspectives on Petra’s mission and the important work of Happy Hearts Fund.

Everyone who knows me is aware that I have a special place in my heart for entrepreneurs, especially ones who are as brilliant as 34-year-old Adrian Li. In a fascinating profile this month, the man behind Qraved, a Jakarta restaurant discovery and reservations web platform, tells us how constantly coming up with innovative new ideas is essential for success on the Internet.

In another entrepreneur profile, Meilinda Sutanto, the creative brain behind upscale furniture retailer Arbor & Troy, explains how she wants to emulate The Body Shop founder Anita Roddick by making money and doing good at the same time. “Our celebrity clients are too many to be named,” says Meilinda, who focuses on selling Indonesian-manufactured furniture.
