ROGER DUBUIS HOMMAGE MINUTE REPEATER TOURBILLON AUTOMATIC
A glowing tribute
THE ROGER DUBUIS Hommage Minute Repeater Tourbillon Automatic in pink gold was the centre of attention at Watches & Wonders 2014 in Hong Kong, where the model made its official international debut. Combining technical complexity and sophistication with Roger Dubuis’ signature aesthetic appeal, the watch’s movement features key technical features that have become Roger Dubuis signatures: automatic winding via a distinctive double microrotor.
The Hommage collection was launched in 1995 at the time of the company’s founding, as a distinctive means of paying homage to generations of watchmakers, as well as to the noble horological traditions they faithfully perpetuate.
“I wanted to create a watch to thank my teachers, friends and all those who had helped me learn and perfect my art,” explains the founder of the company that bears his name. “What touches me about the new Hommage collection is that it is created by a new generation, while maintaining the same initial spirit of gratitude to our forebears.”
Issued in a 20-piece limited edition to celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary, the Hommage Minute Repeater Tourbillon Automatic proudly bears Roger Dubuis’ signature on the case-back, providing an unhindered view of the RD104 movement. The minute repeater mechanism chimes three different sounds: the hours on a low tone, minutes on a high tone, and quarter hours on alternating high and low tones. This horological complication has come to epitomise the poetic and whimsical beauty of mechanical timekeeping – as well as a delightful blend of visual, auditory and even tactile pleasures.
On a visual level, the Hommage Minute Repeater Tourbillon Automatic bears the distinctive traits of the Hommage collection. The choice of pink gold creates an elegant contrast with the minute markings, hand-applied Roman numerals on the chapter ring, and tourbillon, while particularly highlighting the strategically bared minute repeater mechanism. Likewise, the multiple dial levels, along with the range of decorative techniques used – from the distinctive sunray hand-guilloché motif in the dial centre to the circular satin-finish on the chapter ring – creates a unique 3D effect.
