August 2-19 MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
This well-loved film extravaganza opens with the Australian premiere of Wildlife, a 1950s drama about broken marriages that stars Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal. Other highlights include an all-night marathon of movies headlined by Nicolas Cage, as well as a special screening of the Japanese cult comedy, Tampopo.
August 23-26 ASIA HOTEL ART FAIR SEOUL 2018
Instead of a gallery or white cube, exhibits are viewed on the beds, by the windows and in the bathtubs of hotel rooms. The fair’s 10th instalment is held at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas.
Until September 17 THE WORLDS OF CHAUMET
Held at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum in Tokyo, this showcase of 300 pieces of jewellery examines the link Chaumet has established with the arts since the 18th century. Among the objets d’art is Pope Pius VII’s tiara gifted by Napoleon I (above), which features the Jules II emerald.
