Freedom’s Outcry
Sofyan Djalil, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning, was the guest of honour when Mexico celebrated its 208th anniversary of independence at the embassy in Jakarta on Thursday, September 13. Some 400 friends of Mexico attended the event, which was a celebration of Mexican gastronomy and folklore that included national anthems and speeches, a dinner, the Ceremony of the Outcry of Independence and a MexicanLatin Party. “Our two countries have an amazing collection of similarities,” said Mexican Ambassador to Indonesia Armando Alvarez Reina. “We are two large multi-ethnic and multi-cultural nations, proud of our huge natural, historical and cultural heritage. We are also two consolidated democracies that promote human rights and social progress, and two vibrant nations with a unique international personality. That is why the last 65 years have been marked by solid friendship, active cooperation, growing exchanges and permanent cultural dialogue. However, the best is yet to come.”
