Down memory lane
Donatella Versace took new york’s fashionistas down memory lane in December with a new take on the house’s famous safety-pin gown of 1994. She reincarnated the black gown that was held by oversized Medusa-head embossed safety pins and was worn by movie star Elizabeth Hurley to the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral. at the time, the dress received considerable global coverage in newspapers and magazines and considerably Hurley’s profile. The dress, Donatella’s tribute to her late brother Gianni, was shown during the label’s first pre-fall collection show after its sale to Michael Kors. Similarly, Donatella also recreated the sheer green dress she designed for singer jennifer Lopez in 2000 by replacing the printed palm trees in the original dress with multi-coloured hearts.
