Charmie Hamami and her hardworkin­g team at Christie’s Indonesia really pushed the boat out in October, holding three straight days of events in Jakarta and Surabaya to promote the auction house’s upcoming fall sales in Hong Kong. The fun began at Grand Hyatt Jakarta on Thursday, October 25 with high tea and an afternoon fashion presentati­on attended by 80 guests. Tina Tan Leo hosted the show, which featured Christie’s jewellery, handbags and watches, and the Safiyaa collection. Later, there was a private “Blue Book” talk by profession­al watch collector Eric Tortella on the watch market and collecting timepieces, attended by 20 guests. Still at Grand Hyatt Jakarta, the next day saw another “Blue Book” talk, this time over lunch with 20 guests. In the

late afternoon, Dr. Werner Kraus entertaine­d 30 guests with a talk on Raden Saleh, the highlight of which was a discussion of a Christie’s 20th Century & Contempora­ry Art highlight, “Mail Station at the Bottom of Mount Megamendun­g.” In the evening there was “Collector’s Night”, attended by 80 guests, featuring singing and dancing accompanie­d by art, luxury items and good company. Saturday, October 27 was the date of Christie’s “Surabaya Exclusive Wine Dinner”, attended by 40 guests. The dinner was led by four Christie’s experts: Tim Triptree, Internatio­nal Director, Wine Senior Specialist; Dexter How, Vice President, Head of Sale, Southeast Asian Art, 20th Century & Contempora­ry; Sophia Zhou, Associate Specialist, Chinese Painting & Works of Art; and Winsy Tsang, Head of Sale, Handbags & Accessorie­s.
