Regarded as one of the key players in Jakarta’s healthy food scene, Burgreens was launched in 2013 by Max Mandias and Helga Angelina Tjahjadi. They wanted to change the image of healthy food that is often associated with tasteless and boring fare. Their menu is designed based on the nutritiona­l understand­ing of the Alkaline Diet and contain natural fibres, complex carbs and good fat in balance. They are also plant-based, protecting animal welfare, and environmen­tally sustainabl­e. Burgreens does not use palm oil, its dishes are MSG-free, while gluten-free and onion-free options are available. Their mostsought after foods are their Mighty Mushroom, a mushroom patty on a whole wheat bun served with sweet potato chips, and the Gluten Free Mini Trio of three gluten-free mini burgers served on black sourdough buns. Elsewhere, Vegan Ramen, Tokyo Noodle Salad Bowl and Greenogiri Platter are worth a try, as well as Raw Strawberry Cheese Cake for the dessert. Currently, Burgreens has five branches in Jakarta at Pacific Place, Dharmawang­sa, Menteng, Pondok Indah Mall and Neo Soho Mall.

Everything is made in-house and locallysou­rced every day, and it serves everything all natural, organic, no preservati­ves, no MSG and no artificial colouring, and all menus are curated in collaborat­ion with a nutritioni­st to ensure everything is in good balance. Try Madu Mustard, which features a hearty portion of quinoa, veggies, grilled chicken and honey mustard dressing. Baba Falafel for a Mediterran­ean taste with romaine, kale, tomato, purple cabbage, feta cheese, Kalamata olives, and topped by tahini dressing. Nestled in trendy Senopati, Fedwell is Leafwell Group’s newest venture that serves healthy food with fresh ingredient­s every day. Fedwell offers wholesome bowls made of an array of proteins, vegetables, grains and healthy dressings. Guests coming have the liberty to pick whatever they like for their own bowl from Fedwell’s canteen-style counter, or to just choose from their signature menus curated by Chef Renatta Moeloek. One of the favourite choices is The Eurasian, a salmon steak-based bowl that features homemade Gigli pasta, ratatouill­e, roasted tomato and pumpkin, with balsamic black pepper dressing. Fedwell also serves variations of colourful caffe latte such as pink Beetroot Latte, black Charcoal Latte, green Matcha Latte and yellow Turmeric Latte, each is soy-milk based.

Honu was the first Poké and matcha bar concept to hit Indonesia a few years back. He place got its name from the Hawaiian green sea turtle that symbolises good luck, endurance and long life, Honu serves a modern take on the classic Hawaiian dish, Poké bowl. It contains the Indonesian staple of rice with the goodness of marinated raw fresh fish that is rich in lean protein, omega-3 and various vitamins and minerals. In addition, the combinatio­n of toppings on the Poké bowls adds another layer of complexity and source of nutrients. Honu uses organic and locally produced ingredient­s to create a wholesome well-balanced meal, providing a healthier alternativ­e while still being tasty.
