JUNCTURE OF CHANGE
In the immortal words of Coco Chanel, fashion changes, but style endures. So, once again, Prestige Indonesia presents its Fashion Issue, and once again, we look at what endures and what changes. Now, beyond the transition of spring/summer to fall/winter, we’re also seeing change being driven by both technology and our new, more homebound lifestyles.
For the former, we’ve seen the rise of everything from virtual photo shoots to virtual fashion shows. Perhaps less obvious but more impressively, we’re also seeing a major change in fashion photography driven by the leaps and bounds in mobile technology. As you might have already noticed, this issue’s cover and accompanying fashion spread – featuring the lovely and talented Asmara Abigail – was taken using a smartphone as we teamed up with Oppo to showcase the company’s latest flagship smartphone. More than just a collaboration for the sake of doing a collaboration, we feel that this venture offers us a poignant glimpse at the future of both mobile technology and fashionfocused media, to say nothing of how the definition of photographers and photography might shift in the future.
Another major change that we’ve also taken note of is the upswing in more casual apparel – loungewear and the like – as more and more people come to grips with spending most of their time at home. While the conversation about work-from-home attire was once dominated by jokes about dressing up only from the waist up for Zoom meetings, there is now actual interest in a new balance of being stylish and being comfortable within one’s own home. That was also one of the major points of our conversation with Christine Lafian, the founder of SUKU.
