The Hermès Pink Room immerses you in the delicate wonders of the Hermès Women’s Silk universe

THE HERMÈS SCARF is the epitome of luxury. An object that never follows trends but stands on its own, a Hermès scarf doesn’t let its wearer forget about the absolute sense of lavishness and appreciation for craftmanship that goes into it.

Maison Hermès first began producing scarves in 1937, a century after the company established its first harness workshop in Paris. Robert Dumas, a member of the Hermès family, created the design for the first scarf using a woodblock. The elaborate, colourful pattern quickly drew the attention of Paris’s high society ladies and before long, the Hermès scarf was the must-have fashion accessory.

Like all things Hermès, the process of making the scarves is intensely detailed. For instance, engraving the printing screen alone takes 750 hours while each scarf requires the silk of 250 mulberry silk cocoons. Lightweight and eyecatching, a Hermès scarf is also the perfect wardrobe staple with its versatility, be it wrapped around the neck, around the straps of your Birkin or simply to hide those unruly bad-hair days. The options are endless.

Last October, Hermès Indonesia presented the Pink Room pop-up installation at Hermès Pacific Place. The Hermès Pink Room is a global installation, an adaptation from Hermès Paris to highlight the wonders of the Women’s Silk universe. The first Pink Room was installed in Hong Kong and since then, more countries have adapted this little universe, including China, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany and Russia.

The Pink Room is a circular room with, as the name suggests, pink walls. Once you enter the room, you’ll instantly feel the youthful, fun, vibrant energy of Hermès’ silk creations that is

encapsulated in a young girl’s room. There’s a sitting area with lots of pillows, a headphone, a lamp, an old telephone, polaroid photos, collages and various knick-knacks that you’d expect to see in the room of a teen. And as like a teenager would, one can just lounge here and enjoy the room for hours while taking in all the little details.

The picture collages on the wall, by the way, actually showcase Hermès’ silk pieces and is put there in hopes of inspiring visitors and introduce them to the many ways they can incorporate silk pieces into their own personal style. There are even Hermès knotting cards displayed on the wall.

And just like Hermès silk, the colour pink is chosen because it perfectly captures the same fun, youthful and vibrant energy. And, it was certainly the right choice: A moment in the pink room will immerse you in the memories of your younger self and you can’t help but feel happy about it.

Inside and all around the outer part of the room, you can see various Hermès scarves in display, both from the new and iconic collections, from twilly to cashmere to silks of different sizes. And to make the unique experience complete, visitors and loyal fans of the brand can also observe a Tricotin artist make silk bracelets in real time. Until next time, see you on the pink room!
