A Metaphor of Optimism
ISA Art & Design presented “Silver Lining,” an exhibition exploring eight Indonesian artists, each with a different perspective on contemporary life as seen through the lens. The artists include Alexander Thian, Andre Wiredja, Hardijanto Budiman, Chaerul Umam, Dilla Djalil Daniel, Alexander Sebastianus, Reza Kutjh and Nico Dharmajungen. The exhibition was launched online on November 21, 2021, during Art Moments, while the physical exhibition was ran from December 10 – 12 at ISA Gallery, Wisma 46 Jakarta. The phrase “Silver Linings” came from John Milton’s classic poem Comus, written in 1634, and is a metaphor for optimism that each negative occurrence may have a positive aspect. “Silver Linings” is also a connecting line for works by photographers to capture an image using their specific style to deliver contrasting meaning from the initial object. In addition to the contrasting meanings in this exhibition, there is a diversity in the medium, method, equipment and editing processes.
